Why I started Suyoga Setu

I have spent a fair amount of time speaking to students and interviewing candidates, and one thing has stayed with me.

There are people who have the ability to learn and perform, but have never really been exposed to the environments in which they are now expected to succeed.

Sometimes the problem is language.

But often, it is something more basic.

  • Understanding what is being asked.
  • Listening properly.
  • Knowing how to respond.
  • Being able to explain what you know.
  • Knowing how to approach an opportunity.

These are learnable skills, but access to that learning is not distributed equally.

Suyoga Setu started from the belief that a little more exposure and practical guidance at the right time can make a meaningful difference.

I also believe that the people who benefit from that exposure can eventually become the people who pass it on.

Why the name

Suyoga represents the auspicious coming together of potential and opportunity.

Setu is the bridge that helps one reach that opportunity.

We believe that potential exists in every student, but the circumstances that allow that potential to grow and be recognised are not equally available to everyone.

For some, exposure to new environments, the right guidance and opportunities to practise come naturally. For others, these experiences may remain out of reach simply because they have never had access to them.

Suyoga Setu is built around the belief that this gap can be bridged.

By helping students build practical skills, gain exposure and approach opportunities with greater confidence, we hope to make that bridge a little easier to cross.

And once a student has crossed it, we want the journey to continue.

The opportunities and learning they receive should not stop with them. They should be able to carry them forward to others around them, allowing one person's growth to create possibilities for someone else.

That is the idea behind Suyoga Setu.
